GCF adheres to the Child Protection Act by protecting the identities and confidentiality of our children. Photos used on our site are not necessarily of children in our care. Every effort is made to never publish the names or faces of our children. Please contact us directly should you require more information about the use of photographs on our website.

The Family Based care division specializes in the recruitment, screening and preparation (training) of potential foster parents as well as matching a child with a family that will best meet their long term needs. Post placement support is provided to ensure placement stability.

  • Reunification of children with their families is our first priority, especially in focusing on empowerment of biological families when it is possible and in the best interest of the child concerned.

  • Reunification is a process that involves individual counselling for the child, along with family counselling and screening of suitability of the biological family and living environment

  • Often when it comes to reunification, the identified problems in the family (during the admission of the child to GCF) have been

o Poor communication within the family structure

o Discipline that is not suitable for the child

    o Unmet roles and expectations.

These are aspects of family life that can be changed with training and support intervention
